More like crystals than rock, Basalt Columns are formed when lava floes crystallize over time. During this process the crystals grow into long vertical columns. These columns can reach lengths of over forty feet, ranging in diameter from four inches to eight feet.

Their unique structure make them excellent accent and specimen landscaping stones.

Another feature of Basalt Columns is the way they can fracture, causing a natural cup-and-saucer effect. This creates a perfect natural basin, great for birdbaths, catch basins, & water features.

At Gertens Commercial Sales Center we have on exhibit a pond-less waterfall featuring 3 Large Basalt Basins. Surrounding the columns at the base is 4"-6" Green Seaside Mexican Beach Pebbles. Combining the two very different textures of the Basalt Columns and Mexican Beach Pebbles adds visual interest to any landscape. Along with the cascading water, dimensions of movement and sound are added also.
