Product Description

Straw bales are less expensive and lighter too. Straw is slow to break down and they tend to last for two growing seasons.

Conditioning the Bales-
To get the nutrients needed for bacterial growth, we suggest you use blood meal as a nitrogen source by poking holes in the top of the bale.

Proper Watering-
A common mistake is overwatering. Straw Bales need no more than one gallon of water per day to support plant growth. Laying soaker hose over a straw bale garden is an effective way to deliver water evenly.

Benefits from straw bale gardening-
Plants in the surface of the bale are 18-22" higher than an in-ground bed, and that can make all the difference for some gardeners. Reduce weed problems and soil-borne diseases.
